The true McGargle

Joe 'Geordie' McGargle -
The Authentic Breath of the North

Recent News | The Geordie | Discography

One of the absolute authentic voices of English folk music has re-emerged from the shadows. Joe 'Geordie' McGargle, the giant voice of Roker Football, is back again singing, touring, loving and boozing (not necessarily in that order). Joe has been around the world many times before settling briefly with his most recent career as a film scorer for Dreamworks Studios. (He was loaned to Sal Zaentz for Lord of the Rings, where his unique contributions may mostly be detected in the 'Mines of Moria' sequence, produced after a boozy night and with a dripping ale).

Most recently, Joe has also recorded incidental music and sound effects for a production of Dracula at the Hermosa Beach Civic Theatre, and a leading role in the short-lived musical 'Love in the Trenches', where his version of the marital therapist who assists the famous couple to Transform The Power Struggle was termed 'definitive but indecipherable'. Joe has just announced a long world tour taking in a number of major festivals interspersed with house concerts for people he particularly wants to thank after years of friendship and Vaux ale. Starting at the rebirth of the Hungry I in San Francisco, he takes in the UK with festivals and Ireland, before leaving for an exclusive in Australia at the National Folk Festival. After that it's north America, for Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary etc. You can also contact him privately, although the response often varies with the time of day.

The McGarglettes

Joe's backing singers are touring with him.

Wanda, Amandulu, and Enya (no relation) are part of Joe's Californian connection, and can be heard on numerous sound tracks, notably for Roger Corman, and as stand-ins with Van Morrison when his regular singers are off. Joe describes them as irreplaceable, and their exploration of their Celtic heritage, despite being Afro-American, has helped propel his recordings to a new stage.

This was used as a poster for one of his tours, in preference to an earlier choice of one of his racier song titles. There were too many queries about what all the asterisks meant.

Grandma, Geordie's anteater.

Grandma, the old anteater at Santa Barbara Zoo, sponsored by Geordie. He has a great affection for this old anteater, saying it reminds him of his Aunty Violet McGargle - 15 children but still not giving up!
